Overview

Stanza is an Electron-based mod manager for DDLC (Doki Doki Literature Club!) that lets you organize and launch multiple mods from a single place. It works by maintaining a clean base copy of the game and isolating each mod into its own folder, keeping everything tidy and conflict-free.

Folder Structure

Stanza uses the following directory layout:

stanza/
└── data/
    └── base/     ← Fresh, unmodified copy of DDLC goes here

base/

This is where you place a clean, unmodified copy of DDLC. Stanza uses this as the foundation when running any mod. Do not modify the contents of this folder.

Setup

.exe version:

1. run

npm run make

• If you get any error messages in terminal, simply ignore it and proceed onto the next step

2. Navigate to out/stanza-win32-x64/ and run stanza.exe to launch the app.
3. Place a fresh copy of DDLC into the data/base/ folder. This should be a clean, unmodified install of the game.
4. You're ready to import mods!

Basic version:

1. run

npx electronmon .

2. Again, place a fresh DDLC copy into data/base
3. Import & Launch the mod!

Importing Mods

Before importing a mod through the Stanza interface, you need to make sure it's structured correctly.

Important: Mod files must be inside a game/ folder, and that game/ folder must be inside a parent folder. It is this parent folder that you select when importing through Stanza. Also if you're downloading the mod in .rar format, extract it to .zip first.

Here's how to prepare a mod for import:

1. Download the mod as usual.
2. Check the mod's contents. If the files (.rpy, .rpyc, images, audio, etc.) are not already inside a game/ folder, create one and move everything into it.
3. Make sure the game/ folder itself is inside a parent folder. Your final structure should look like this before importing:

your-mod/   ← Select THIS folder when importing in Stanza
└── game/
├── script.rpy
├── images/
└── ...

4. Open Stanza, click Install a mod, give it a name, then select the parent folder (e.g. your-mod/) — not the game/ folder itself.

If you select the game/ folder directly, Stanza will not be able to find the mod content correctly.

Mod Compatibility Requirements

Requirement	Details
game/ folder	Required. All mod content must be inside a game/ subfolder.
Clean base copy	Required. A fresh, unmodified DDLC install must be in base/.
Mod isolation	Each mod lives in its own subfolder under mods/.

Mods that distribute their files without a game/ folder will need to be manually reorganized before they can be used with Stanza.

Troubleshooting

The mod won't load / shows an error on launch → Make sure all mod files are inside a game/ folder. This is the most common issue.

The base game isn't found → Verify that a complete, unmodified copy of DDLC is inside the base/ folder.

A mod worked standalone but not in Stanza → Some mods may modify files outside the game/ folder or require specific base game versions. Check the mod's own documentation.

A mod isn't in the playtested list → It may still work! The list only reflects mods that have been personally tested. Try importing it following the steps above.
