For applicability, IIDs must be recognizable as an IID, simply by examining its syntax -- Is this true?

The text refers to an IID as having equivalent sytnax to a DID. So how can one distinguish between them from the IID?

Good question. This is also something that still confuses me a bit. What is the key difference between an IID and DID:EARTH. From my discussions with Shaun and Joe it seems that IID is merely a type of implementation for the DID:EARTH method.

Maybe @jandrieu or @ig-shaun can provide more clarity on this.
